The AMHE Foundation
AMHE Foundation is an IRS recognized 501(c)(3), charitable organization, incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois. The AMHE Foundation was created by the members of the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad (AMHE), when they learned that their newly founded professional association , could not function also as a charitable organization. By a consensus reached while convened at the second AMHE Annual Convention held in 1974 in New York City, the members decided to create a separate not-for-profit organization, with mission to support their philanthropic activities, thereby fulfilling a goal clearly expressed in the original AMHE’s set of objectives. On June 4th 1976, the foundation was finally incorporated under Illinois State laws, and given the name of a well renowned Haitian physician who had just recently been killed in a bizarre traffic accident. In 1996, after a second name change, the Foundation was rechristened to be finally known as the AMHE Foundation. But throughout, and regardless of the name, it continued to be a public health organization, dedicated to the general welfare and mainly the health security and maintenance of its core constituency and of the public at large well
