AMHE Foundation Young Physicians Scholarship program
The AMHE Foundation Clinical Rotation Program established for Residents in training at L’ Hôpital de l’Université d’Etat d’Haïti (HUEH), L’Hôpital Universitaire La Paix and L’Hôpital Universitaire Justinien (HUJ) started in 2005 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, Kansas. It was then exclusively in Orthopedics and under the enthusiastic and devoted direction of Dr. Maxime Coles.
In September 2007,the program extended to New York City as a joint initiative of AMHE, the “Société Immobilière Agriculture, Commerce and Tourisme (SIMACT)” and The Brooklyn Hospital Center. The residents rotate for 3 months in different services: Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics-Gynecology, Pediatrics, General surgery. The rotation in Radiology takes place at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. This program provides these young physician colleagues exposure to medicine taught and practiced with the latest technological advances. Up to July of 2020, when it was momentarily interrupted by Covid-19 onslaught on New York City, ninety-three residents have benefited from this rotation and all of them have expressed a “robust positive response” and great satisfaction with the program.
AMHE Foundation needs your financial support to continue the program and to meet the Residents travel and living expenses while in the United States, expenses amounting yearly between $40,000.00 to $50,000.00 .
With the active participation of AMHE members and supporters, the program could also EXTEND to additional hospitals.
