New York, November 24, 2016

Dear Friends

President Barrack Obama declared yesterday at the Lima Conference in Peru, that he has been assisting in the reconstruction of Haiti in the aftermath of the Hurricane “Matthew”. Great news.

I would say that France, EU, Canada, DR, Cuba, Venezuela did also contribute.

The AMHE Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad (AMHE) actively involved in helping this devastated land invites you to donate once again onThanksgiving by accessing the web site www.amhefoundation.org. or send a check to the Foundation address.

Folks, let be absolutely clear.

We still have 1.410.700 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, 546 dead, 145 missing, 175000 in shelters. This is a major disaster.

With the loss of livestock, the fall of orange, coco, banana and coffee trees, inhabitants of the South peninsula of Haiti will have a difficult time to say the least. Therefore, a sustained effort has to be made to really help those individuals in need.

“ The government faces challenges in restoring health facilities” in affected areas and urgent repairs to restore functionality have been identified.” In Sud Department, 28% of health facilities sustained severe damage and 8% are closed, while in Grand’Anse, 43% of health facilities were severely damaged and 7% are closed.” WHO website.

Vaccination for cholera has started, see the map.

AMHE has disbursed part of the proceeds of its fundraising to the Grand Anse area. More has to be done.

An AMHE Relief mission under the direction of Dr Paul Nacier, Dr Ducarmel Augustin, Dr. Eric Jerome will reach Jeremie on the 2nd of December 2016 to work and assess.

We have maintained a permanent contact with the leadership responsible for the St Antoine Hospital in Jeremie to insure Healthcare is provided without any hiatus. The first Haitian Docs that reached Jeremie in three days after the hurricane left a lot of medications, and the nurses (HANA) did the same afterwards.
This is a joint effort and everyone is welcome to participate.

Our Annual Convention this year will be in Haiti with a medical mission scheduled just before this activity.

You may joint us in Haiti or be a staunch supporter of this endeavor by sending a check to:

AMHE office at 1166 Eastern Parkway Brooklyn NY 11213, second floor or access the website www.amhefoundation.org where Dr Andre Talleyrand our treasurer can be reached.

Fer any question, call Ms. Myriam Delva at 718 2451015.

Again we are a 501c3 organization meaning your donations are fully tax deductible. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Happy Thanksgiving.
